Day 4
Well…the storm is still sticking around although there isn’t more than a sprinkling at the moment. According to weather.com, it’s supposed to clear up around noon. I was speaking with cashier in the general store who told me the road was still closed for cars due to snow on the pass where I was headed. He agreed that it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to go today as CHP...
Day 3
Last night was pretty terrible…My tent was pelted all night with torrential downpours of rain, hail, and sleet. The winds were very gusty most of the night as well. Trying to not only stay warm but positive about this adventure is quite a challenge. I look forward to getting back on my bike and on the road again! But for today I remain stuck in Alpine for another night…
Storm!!!
Rain is coming down pretty hard now with some strong, gusty winds!
Day 2
I woke up a few times during the night and could hear the rain drops falling on my tent. I was expecting the rain… When I got up and out of my tent, it was definitely cold (in the low 50s) and wet. There were a few areas on the route where I was maxing out at 4.5 miles per hour due to all of this freakin’ gear I’m carrying…not sure if I’ve made a good choice taking...
San Diego
I departed San Jose this morning in the rented minivan with more anxiety about the upcoming trip than before…it felt so surreal to think that I would be starting this cross country bike ride in less than 24 hours. The drive down to San Diego was more or less uneventful, and luckily the LA traffic wasn’t too insane.
Once I got to my cheap motel, it was time to eat dinner and load up...

The journey begins tomorrow...
So, I opened my fortune cookie today after lunch and it said, “You are heading in the right direction.” Considering that I’m renting a minivan to drive down to San Diego tomorrow morning in order to start my cross country solo bike ride on Friday, this bit of fortune news is somewhat comforting. One minute I think I’m ready to go, but then the next I’m trying to convince myself to take another...
